Why the iPhone 15 Pro Is Still Worth Buying in 2026
While the iPhone 16 and 17 series have since launched, the iPhone 15 Pro remains one of the most compelling buys on the refurbished smartphone market. Here's exactly why:
1. Apple Intelligence โ A Huge Reason to Choose 15 Pro Over Older Models
This is arguably the most important reason to pick the 15 Pro over the 14 Pro or older iPhones. The iPhone 15 Pro is fully compatible with Apple Intelligence โ Apple's AI-powered feature suite that includes Writing Tools, Priority Notifications, Image Playground, Genmoji, and a dramatically smarter Siri. You need an A17 Pro chip (or newer) to access these features, which means the iPhone 14 Pro misses out entirely. In 2026, Apple Intelligence is increasingly central to the iOS experience, making the 15 Pro the oldest model still fully futureproofed for AI features.
2. The A17 Pro Chip: Still Blazing Fast
Built on TSMC's 3nm process, the A17 Pro chip delivers GPU performance that leaps 20% beyond the A16 Bionic found in the 14 Pro. Whether you're gaming with console-quality graphics, editing ProRes video on the go, or multitasking between demanding apps, the iPhone 15 Pro handles everything without breaking a sweat. In 2026, this chip still comfortably outperforms most Android flagships in single-core benchmarks.
3. Titanium Design โ Lighter and More Premium Than Ever
Apple switched from stainless steel to aerospace-grade titanium for the 15 Pro, making it noticeably lighter in hand โ around 19g lighter than the 14 Pro at just 187g. Combined with the brushed titanium finish and contoured edges, it's one of the best-feeling smartphones ever made. The four colour options โ Black Titanium, White Titanium, Blue Titanium, and Natural Titanium โ all look strikingly elegant.
4. The Action Button: Totally Customisable
The Action button replaces the traditional mute switch on the left side and can be configured to launch any shortcut you choose โ mute/unmute, Camera, Torch, Voice Memo, Focus modes, Translate, or any Shortcut from the Shortcuts app. It's a small addition that makes a real difference to daily use.
5. USB-C with USB 3 Speeds
Unlike the standard iPhone 15 (which also switched to USB-C but at slow USB 2 speeds), the iPhone 15 Pro supports USB 3 transfer speeds up to 10Gbps. This matters enormously for photographers and videographers who need to offload large ProRAW images or 4K ProRes footage quickly. It also supports external displays and SSD storage directly.
6. An Exceptional Camera System
The 15 Pro's triple-camera setup is genuinely outstanding:
- 48MP main sensor (f/1.78) with second-generation sensor-shift optical image stabilisation
- 12MP ultrawide with macro photography capability (as close as 2cm)
- 12MP 3ร telephoto delivering true optical zoom โ a significant upgrade over the 2ร zoom on the standard 15
- Support for ProRAW and 4K ProRes video at 60fps when connected via USB 3
- Improved Night mode, Smart HDR 5, and Photonic Engine computational photography
- Cinematic mode at up to 4K 30fps
7. Long iOS Software Support Ahead
Apple's software longevity is unmatched in the smartphone industry. The iPhone 15 Pro runs iOS 26 and is expected to receive Apple software updates for several more years. Your refurbished 15 Pro will stay secure, current, and feature-rich long into the future.
Refurbished iPhone 15 Pro vs iPhone 14 Pro: Is the Upgrade Worth It?
| Feature | iPhone 15 Pro | iPhone 14 Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Chip | A17 Pro (3nm) | A16 Bionic (4nm) |
| Apple Intelligence | Yes | No |
| Frame material | Titanium | Stainless steel |
| Connector | USB-C (USB 3, 10Gbps) | Lightning |
| Action button | Yes | No (mute switch only) |
| Main camera | 48MP f/1.78 | 48MP f/1.78 |
| Telephoto | 3ร optical | 3ร optical |
| Dynamic Island | Yes | Yes |
| Weight | 187g | 206g |
The verdict is clear: if Apple Intelligence matters to you โ and it increasingly will as Apple deepens AI integration throughout iOS โ the 15 Pro is the better long-term investment. The lighter titanium frame, USB-C with USB 3 speeds, and the Action button are also genuine quality-of-life upgrades. The 14 Pro remains a solid phone, but the 15 Pro offers meaningfully more.
