Are Apple Watches Waterproof?

Apple Watches are not waterproof. They are water-resistant, which means they can handle light splashes and brief exposure to water, but they are not designed for long-term water use or full waterproof protection.

โš ๏ธ Important: Refurbished Apple Watches may have reduced water resistance due to age, wear, or previous repairs. We do not cover liquid damage under warranty.

Understanding Water Resistance Ratings

Apple Watches are tested under controlled conditions and given ratings such as:

  • Apple Watch Series 2 and later: Water resistant to 50 metres (ISO standard 22810:2010) โ€“ suitable for shallow-water swimming, not diving or high-velocity water.
  • Apple Watch Ultra: Water resistant to 100 metres โ€“ suitable for recreational diving up to 40m, but not professional diving.

These ratings apply to brand-new watches. Over time, the seals and adhesives that provide resistance can weaken.

Why Refurbished Apple Watches Are Less Water Resistant

  • Seals and gaskets naturally degrade with age.
  • Heat, cleaning, and previous usage weaken water resistance.
  • Opening a device during refurbishment or repair can reduce its ability to resist water.

Activities You Should Avoid

To prevent damage, avoid exposing your Apple Watch to:

  • Swimming in the sea or pools (especially with chlorine or salt water)
  • Showering, bathing, or sauna/steam rooms
  • Diving, water-skiing, or high-velocity water activities
  • Submerging in water for extended periods

Whatโ€™s Covered by Our Warranty

Our 12-month warranty covers technical faults such as screen, battery, or performance issues. It does not cover liquid or accidental damage. This is because water resistance cannot be guaranteed on refurbished devices.

Quick FAQs

Are Apple Watches waterproof?

No. They are water-resistant, not waterproof. Water damage is not covered by our warranty.

No. Our warranty does not cover water or liquid damage to Apple Watches.

Whatโ€™s safe to do with an Apple Watch?

Light splashes, rain, or washing your hands. Avoid immersion, swimming, or high-pressure water exposure.
