Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Review (2026): Is It Worth Buying Refurbished in the UK?
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Review (2026): Is It Worth Buying Refurbished in the UK?
Last updated: 25 May 2026 – by RefurbPhone Editorial. We have refurbished and sold dozens of Galaxy Z Fold 6 units to UK customers since the device launched in July 2024.
Quick verdict: Should you buy a refurbished Galaxy Z Fold 6 in 2026?
Yes – for most buyers, a refurbished Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 is the smartest way to own Samsung's flagship foldable in 2026. You get the same hardware, the same Galaxy AI software, the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 performance and the same 7.6-inch foldable display – typically for hundreds of pounds less than the new RRP. With the Galaxy Z Fold 7 now on sale, refurbished Fold 6 supply is good and prices are at their most attractive yet.
That said, the Fold 6 is not for everyone. Read on for our full UK review.

What we like about the Galaxy Z Fold 6
The foldable that finally feels normal
The Z Fold 6 is the most polished Samsung foldable to date. The hinge is tighter and feels more reassuring than the Fold 5. The cover display is now wider (6.3-inch with a 22:9 aspect ratio) which means typing on the front of the phone is no longer a cramped compromise – it actually feels like a normal phone when closed.
Galaxy AI changes how you use a phone
The Fold 6 was Samsung's flagship Galaxy AI launch device. The 7.6-inch inner display is genuinely the perfect canvas for the AI features – Circle to Search, Live Translate, Note Assist, Photo Assist and Sketch to Image are far more useful on a tablet-sized screen than on a regular phone. If you've never used a foldable, this is the model that justifies the form factor.
S Pen support that actually works
The Fold 6 supports the S Pen Pro and the dedicated S Pen Fold Edition. Combined with the inner display, this turns the phone into a genuine digital notebook – ideal for meetings, sketching or marking up PDFs without carrying a tablet.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 still feels fast in 2026
Even two years post-launch, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy holds up against everything except the absolute newest chips. App switching, multitasking with three apps split-screen, gaming on the 7.6-inch display – the Fold 6 is still a flagship.
Cameras that are good enough for almost everyone
The 50MP main camera plus 3x telephoto produces sharp, vibrant Samsung-style photos. It's not the equal of the Galaxy S24 Ultra or iPhone 16 Pro Max camera systems, but it's miles better than the Fold 5 and very good for everyday use.
What's not so great about the Galaxy Z Fold 6
The price was high when it was new
At £1,799 launch price, the Fold 6 was hard to recommend to anyone who wasn't already committed to foldables. This is exactly why refurbished is the right way to buy it in 2026 – you pay a sensible price for what is now a proven device.
The crease is still there
Samsung has reduced the visibility of the inner-display crease compared to Fold 5, but it's still there. You feel it under your finger when you scroll. After a few days, most users stop noticing it. If you cannot live with a visible crease at all, foldables aren't for you yet.
Battery life is good, not great
The 4,400mAh battery comfortably gets through a day of normal use but heavy multitasking on the inner display drains it faster than a regular Galaxy S24. Expect to charge nightly. If you stream video on the inner display, expect to charge by evening.
Camera lags behind the S24 Ultra
If photography is your priority, a refurbished Galaxy S24 Ultra or iPhone 16 Pro Max takes better photos than the Fold 6 in most conditions. The Fold 6's cameras are good but not best-in-class.
The S Pen costs extra and won't store in the phone
Unlike the S24 Ultra, the Fold 6 has no S Pen storage built into the body. You need to buy a Fold Edition case with a S Pen slot or carry the pen separately.
Galaxy Z Fold 6 vs Galaxy Z Fold 5 – worth upgrading?
If you have a Fold 5, the Fold 6 upgrades are real but incremental:
- Display: Brighter (2,600 nits peak vs 1,750 on Fold 5), and the cover display is now wider 22:9 vs 23.1:9
- Processor: Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 vs Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 – about 30% faster CPU, 50% faster NPU for AI
- Software: Galaxy AI features (not on Fold 5 at launch, though some were added later)
- Build: Stronger hinge, slightly lighter (239g vs 253g), slightly thinner when folded
- Battery: Same 4,400mAh – no improvement
- Cameras: Same hardware but improved processing
- Water resistance: IP48 (vs IPX8 on Fold 5) – now rated against dust too
Verdict: If you're on a Fold 5, upgrade only if Galaxy AI matters to you. The hardware gains are nice but not transformative. A refurbished Fold 5 remains excellent value if you don't need AI.
Galaxy Z Fold 6 vs Galaxy Z Fold 7 – should you wait?
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 launched in 2025 with a thinner, lighter body, larger 8-inch inner display, improved 200MP main camera and the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. It's the better phone if money is no object.
But here's the math: a refurbished Fold 6 from RefurbPhone costs a fraction of a new Fold 7. The Fold 6 is still fast, still supported by Samsung with software updates until at least 2031, and still does everything a foldable should. Unless you specifically need the larger display or improved camera, the Fold 6 is the smarter buy in 2026.
Galaxy Z Fold 6 vs Galaxy Z Flip 6 – which foldable is right for you?
This depends entirely on what you want from a foldable:
- Buy the Z Fold 6 if: you want a tablet-sized inner display for productivity, multitasking, watching video or using the S Pen. Best for power users.
- Buy the Z Flip 6 if: you want a normal-sized phone that folds in half for pocketability. Best for everyday users who want the foldable design without the bulk.
Both refurbished foldables save you significantly vs buying new at RefurbPhone.
Is the refurbished Galaxy Z Fold 6 reliable?
This is the question we get asked most. Foldable phones have a reputation for hinge issues, screen failures and short lifespans. Our experience refurbishing dozens of Fold 6 units says the reality is more positive than the reputation:
- Samsung rates the Fold 6 hinge for 200,000 fold cycles (roughly 5-7 years of normal use)
- The inner-display screen protector can lift slightly after 12-24 months – it's user-replaceable
- The hinge is the most failure-prone component but failures in our testing are rare
- Battery health on units returning to us at the 18-month mark is typically 88-92% – still well above our 85% refurbished threshold
Every refurbished Galaxy Z Fold 6 at RefurbPhone is tested by our UK engineers across the inner display, outer display, hinge mechanism, all cameras, S Pen response, biometric sensors, speakers, charging and battery health. Any battery below 85% capacity is replaced before sale. You also get a 12-month UK warranty.
How much does a refurbished Galaxy Z Fold 6 cost in the UK?
Refurbished Fold 6 prices have dropped significantly since the Fold 7 launch. At RefurbPhone, prices vary by storage and condition grade – see our live Fold 6 stock for current pricing. We grade every device as Premium Refurbished, Very Good or Fair so you know exactly what cosmetic condition to expect.
Frequently Asked Questions
When was the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 released in the UK?
The Galaxy Z Fold 6 was released globally on 24 July 2024, with UK availability starting the same day through Samsung UK, EE, Three, O2, Vodafone and major retailers including Currys and Amazon UK. Pre-orders opened on 10 July 2024.
Is the Galaxy Z Fold 6 worth buying refurbished in 2026?
Yes – for most buyers a refurbished Fold 6 is excellent value in 2026. You get Samsung's most polished foldable with Galaxy AI, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 performance, 7.6-inch foldable display and S Pen support, at hundreds of pounds less than the new RRP. Samsung will continue to provide OS and security updates until at least 2031, so a 2026 refurbished Fold 6 has years of supported life ahead.
What's the difference between the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 5?
The Fold 6 has a brighter display (2,600 nits vs 1,750), a wider cover screen (22:9 vs 23.1:9), Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip (vs Gen 2), Galaxy AI features built in, a slightly lighter body (239g vs 253g) and IP48 dust + water resistance (Fold 5 was IPX8, water only). Inner display size, battery capacity and main camera hardware are unchanged.
How long is the Galaxy Z Fold 6 hinge rated for?
Samsung rates the Z Fold 6 hinge for 200,000 fold cycles – roughly 5 to 7 years of typical daily use. In our refurbishment testing, hinge failures are uncommon. The component most likely to need attention over time is the inner-display screen protector, which can lift at the edges and is user-replaceable.
Does the refurbished Galaxy Z Fold 6 come with the S Pen?
Not by default. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 supports the S Pen Pro and a Fold Edition S Pen, but neither is included in the standard box. You'll need to buy the S Pen separately or look for a refurbished Fold 6 listed with a Fold Edition case (which includes a slot for the pen). Each RefurbPhone product listing confirms what's included.
Is the refurbished Galaxy Z Fold 6 unlocked?
Yes. Every Galaxy Z Fold 6 at RefurbPhone ships unlocked and SIM-free, ready to use on any UK network including O2, EE, Three, Vodafone, Tesco Mobile, giffgaff and Sky Mobile.
How long will Samsung support the Galaxy Z Fold 6 with updates?
Samsung committed to 7 years of major Android OS updates and 7 years of security patches for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 at launch. That means OS support through to at least Android 21 (2031) and security updates until July 2031.
Can the Galaxy Z Fold 6 replace a tablet?
For most people, yes. The 7.6-inch inner display is large enough for split-screen multitasking, video streaming, e-reading, drawing with the S Pen, and most tablet-class tasks. It won't replace a 12.9-inch iPad Pro for pro creative work, but for everyday tablet use the Fold 6 makes a dedicated tablet redundant.
Is the Galaxy Z Fold 6 waterproof?
The Z Fold 6 is rated IP48 – dust resistant and able to survive immersion in fresh water up to 1.5m for 30 minutes. It is not rated for salt water, hot water or showers, and the IP rating may degrade over time on a folding device. Treat it as splash-resistant rather than fully waterproof.
