Design
The PSP Street (model number PSP-E1000) was introduced as an entry-level budget revision of the PlayStation Portable handheld. Weighing approximately 223 grams and measuring 172.4 x 73.4 x 21.6 mm, it features a matte Charcoal Black shell reminiscent of the PlayStation 3 Slim aesthetic. Sony stripped back external hardware accents found on earlier models, replacing the classic gloss finish with a textured plastic exterior. The front controls feature standard face buttons, an analog stick, and a single tactile touch bar running across the lower edge of the display to house system function keys.
Display
The handheld retains the classic 4.3-inch transparent-type TFT LCD panel found in previous standard PSP releases, operating at a native 480 x 272 pixel resolution in a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio. Capable of displaying over 16.7 million colors, the screen provides standard contrast and color depth suitable for standard-definition gaming. Unlike the flagship PSP-3000, brightness adjustment controls are managed through system software settings rather than a dedicated hardware button on the front trim.
Performance
Equipped with a custom MIPS32 R4000-based processor running up to 333 MHz along with a dedicated Surface Engine GPU, the PSP Street matches the core processing capabilities of the PSP-2000 and 3000 models. With 64MB of system memory, it runs the entire library of physical Universal Media Disc (UMD) software and digital downloads stored on a Memory Stick PRO Duo. To cut production costs, Sony omitted all Wi-Fi hardware, meaning network gameplay, local ad-hoc multiplayer, and direct PlayStation Store access via wireless networks are not supported on this specific model.
Battery and Charging
Power is supplied by a built-in, non-removable 3.6V Lithium-Ion battery pack housed inside the sealed casing. The battery provides between 3 to 5 hours of continuous gameplay depending on screen brightness level and disc drive usage. Recharging is accomplished using the included 5V AC power adapter connected directly to the bottom DC-IN charging port.
Audio and Software
The audio system on the PSP Street was revised down to a single monaural speaker located on the top left of the chassis, though full stereo sound remains available when listening through the 3.5mm headphone jack. The console runs Sony's proprietary XrossMediaBar (XMB) operating system software. Games and media content can be loaded physically via the top-loading UMD tray or transferred digitally from a PC or PlayStation 3 console using a standard USB connection to the Memory Stick PRO Duo card.
